Hi, my family and I are South Asians. We currently live in North London. We are looking to move outside London, currently have our sights set on maidenhead/Windsor area.

Can anyone tell me what the area is like and if it is a nice area for a multicultural family to move to? We can't move further than this due to DH job still being in North London.

Ha - my family Is mixed ie European and Asian and moved to Essex in early 70s. No issues. We are from n London. I moved back and recently moved my even more multicultural son back out of London. Still fine.

What horrors are you expecting? Are you talking as a multicultural family ie mixed?

I wear the hijab. these days I feel more insecure and afraid of going out on my own with my 3 children. I don't want to be the eye sore that people hate or don't understand. I don't want to put my children through a hard time because their mum covers her head out of her own choice.

Windsor is a pretty town with good shops and some good schools. It is very white, and hijabs are uncommon if not unknown. It runs a 3 tier school system (primary, middle, upper).

Across the river is Slough, which is an extremely ugly town, with some good schools. It is very muticultural and no one would bat an eye at a woman in a hijab. The school system is 2 tier - primary and secondary. It has some lovely vilkages on its outskirts.

Between the two I am sure you'll find somewhere that you are happy living.

Forgot to say - Slough is under the grammar school system, Windsor is comprehensive. It is common for children to cross the county boundary for schooling because of this (esp Slough to Windsor).

I am from burnham and a muslim. I dont wear a hajib but my sister in laws do. We often go out in windsor and have had no issues. I feel windsor is multicultural and beautiful place to live. I would choose windsor over maidenhead.
