Or should it be a hedgehog in the UK?

dh says groundhogs different to hedgehogs. I wonder if global warming will end this cute little custom.

majorstress · 02/02/2007 10:38

from what I hear, global warming will end all customs because we will all be dead.

BUT on a more cheerful note, did the critters see their shadows? Have we got 6 more weeks of "winter"?

I grew up in the US and we had groundhogs in the backyard. Now I have hedgehogs in the garden instead!smaller but much more prickly, sort of like the people....[winnk]

do Canadians celebrate Groundhog Day?

I guess Mexicans are out of the question.

yes. yes we do.
though 'celebrate' may not be the right word. there is no groundhog day dinner or anything.
let's say acknowledge.
we have our own canadian groundhog that we consult.

majorstress · 02/02/2007 13:03

OOOH, I never knew that the critter made predictions in Canada. We never had a dinner to celebrate, I dread to think of the menu.

Does anyone else like the movie with wosisname? Bill Murray and Andie Mcdowell

It was one of my faves.

There was another black and white one, the same idea, but much much darker and scary, a horror film really.

Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow-so an early spring! (not sure if it works over here in UK)

"Winter is on its last legs, according to Nova Scotia's Shubenacadie Sam, the first of Canada's weather-predicting groundhogs to poke his nose out and make his forecast Friday. " from msn.ca

purplemonkeydishwasher · 02/02/2007 15:10

ooh apparently there's one in my home town!
manitoba merv he's called. dont know what his prediction was though.

majorstress · 02/02/2007 15:25

You are lucky, I can't find one for my state let alone my town. I found some reasons to celebrate though, sort of.

Helps relieve cabin fever.

Forecast is no less reliable than the National Weather Service.

Valentine's Day is too depressing for nerds.

Unlike the Easter bunny, he keeps his dirty paws outside.

It's fun to say "Punxsutawney".

I don't know if Canadians "celebrate" groundhog day. Did he cast a shadow yesterday in the States?
