Chinese dress

I should probably be posting this in the Style section but anyway, I think i've got a better chance here if Chinese mums are looking at this.

I've got an ivory coloured cherry blossom kei poa (long dress) for a wedding and I'd like some shoes to go with it.What would you normally wear with it? (I'm not the bride btw)

I don't want to wear 4" heels being just 5ft 2", it looks silly! I don't want to wear kitten heels either as they look too flat. Not keen on one strap sandles as they show my flat feet and podgy toes! I don't mind peep toe style shoes but I prefer something that is closed toe. any ideas?

I'd re-post this in the Style section!

What about some closed toe beaded shoes - was thinking of the Moroccan inspired ones but see you want something with a bit of heel.

mummyofeb - where did you get your dress from?!?!?

Name change btw

I got my dress from a shop in Xian.

Now I appreciate that you are not going to make a trip to China just for the sake of a dress!!

You can get Chinese dresses from a few shops in Leicester Square and in China town (London) itself. Cambridge market had a Chinese stall the last time I was there and were selling Chinse blouses and dresses then, not sure if they still are though.

You need to decide what you want though as they vary from very cheap to very expensive.

A lot of dresses may have been bought cheap from abroad and sold at higher prices. Look at the quality of the dress.

Are the frog buttons hand stitched or held together by glue and string?

Is the zip a chunky rucksack type zip or subtle and almost hidden?

Is the fabric polyester or pure silk?

You can also order on line now from providers in Hong Kong and other far East countries.

I haven't used this before but have heard lots of positive things about Chinese Tailor where you type in your measurements and choose your own fabric and even design your own. They're quite pricey though but probably worth it if you're looking for that special something.

There are many other on line providers although they're mostly ready made rather than tailor made selling them at cheaper prices such as orienttouch.com, bitablue.com, just type in a google search for cheongsam.

Hope that helps.
