AlmostAnAngel · 03/01/2006 12:45

only kidding how wonderful

Twiglett · 03/01/2006 12:46

it wasn't sarcasm .. it was humour

why are you thinking of emigrating to Egypt? what would you do there for jobs?

AlmostAnAngel · 03/01/2006 12:47

twiglet could you poss change your name every time i see it i get the taste of bovril in my mouth yuk!

Twiglett · 03/01/2006 12:48

well that shows how much you know about twiglett's .. t'aint bovril you numbnut tis marmite

I lived in that region for a while .. personally wouldn't want to do it for life, nor with kids .. the climate can be quite difficult to cope with after a while and the pleasure of living somewhere so beautiful soon wears off when you have to cope with daily life

AlmostAnAngel · 03/01/2006 12:49

same yuk! lol

Twiglett · 03/01/2006 12:50

well its true what the ad says isn't it .... ya loves me or ya hates me

Serenade · 03/01/2006 12:50

because my husband is Egyptian

jobs - husband would be able to get transfer with his company and I would hopefully be able to get secretarial work

AlmostAnAngel · 03/01/2006 12:51

or her daughter! ie...twiggys little twigglet..

Enid · 03/01/2006 12:51

how lovely

do you dive?

TambaTheDragonSlayer · 03/01/2006 12:51

My aunt and uncle lived in Egypt (but inside the American ebassy so i dont think they had a 'real taste' of eygption life) I think they have moved on now though, i'll have to ask them.

Twiglett · 03/01/2006 12:52

whereabouts in Egypt are you thinking

personally I wouldn't do it ..different customs and perceptions of women than in UK can be difficult to get used to .. especially expectations regarding responsibilities

but then I married an Irish bloke who frazzles in the sun .. so if we're ever emigrating it will be somewhere boggy and cold

Serenade · 03/01/2006 12:53

no i don;t dive!!
i just love the Egyptian culture & people and would love to live in there

we thought red sea (possibly sharm although not sure)

I have lived in Cairo & Alexandria for a while and although i loved it felt a little isolated so the red sea would be more of a compromise(a touch mor western)

My aunt worked as a jounalist over there and really enjoyed it. She used to go on trips down the Nile and Had her first son whilst over there - does that make him eygption i wonder? She really loved it but had the finaces to avoid anything she would have found not so great iyswim. I think you need to look into the health care system, education system and other things like that.

TambaTheDragonSlayer · 03/01/2006 12:59

Did you see the pyramids serenade? I would love too go someday. When ever i think about eygpt i get scenes from 'The Mummy' in my mind

Twiglett · 03/01/2006 13:01

can you try it for a year .. and rent out your house (if you own it)

really you'll never know unless you try .. and if you don't you might regret it

As a minor word of warning though ... I do think that people can change when they 'get back home' .. it happens to me when I go to my home town .. I think it is a far deeper change when you cross cultural and geographical boundaries as in from UK to Egypt

basically I wouldn't make the decision to move on impulse

collision · 03/01/2006 13:04

We lived in Italy and that was a huge culture shock and I am now glad to be back in the UK.

IIWY i would maybe go for 6 months and see if I liked it but keep the house in the UK to fall back on if it went wrong.

Life is difficult enough without being abroad, IME, and once real life kicks in it can be much more difficult with the culture and language etc

collision · 03/01/2006 13:05

posts crossed Twig!

Serenade · 03/01/2006 13:11
