?Politically exposed person or PEP is a term that describes a person who has been entrusted with a prominent public function, or is closely related to such a person. By virtue of this position and the influence it holds, PEPs present a higher risk for potential involvement in bribery and corruption.

So, in the will context, that might mean could any money they receive from the deceased be construed as a bribe.

Whenever you take out a financial product, you have to prove who you are as required by Money Laundering regulations. ML regulations also require a person to declare if they might be classed as a Politically exposed person.

If the will is being handled by a solicitor, it is likely they will need to carry out a money laundering check on anyone that might be a beneficiary of the will so they know they are sending cheques to the correct people. Hence the likelihood of needing to declare a PEP status in this situation.

Solicitors, banks etc should be able to get access to the global databases of PEPs (eg WorldCheck) if you're having problems.

Families and close associates of a PEP can also be considered a PEP as well - not sure if this is relevant in your situation. Being a PEP in itself doesn't always lead to not being eligible for things it generally means organisations will carry out additional 'checks' on the PEP before entering into business with them etc.
