I have been given notice on my house as my landlady wants to move back in. I have found the perfect new home at a brilliant price and paid the holding deposit and credit check fees for both myself and a guarrantor (sorry spelling!) but i have been told today that I have been refused due to the £800 I am paying off a ccj. What can I do?! They say that if I can pay it off then the reference will go through ok and I can move in but there is no way I can raise that amount of money in the next few weeks.
I am currently in a debt management plan with Christians against peverty who have been very helpful but they are not answering the phone at the moment and I am panicing!
Can anyone advise me please, thank you

But I thought that was the whole point of a guarantor?

If the guarantor is good for paying the rent, then your ccj shouldn't be an issue.

Is it an agent telling you this?

Could it be the landlord is worried about your ability to pay, despite the guarantor? Bad of the estate agent to let you go through the proccess and pay the fee if they knew this was going to be a problem. I'd start complaining to the letting agent.

aha! have just phoned them back and the agent revealed that they hadn't actually got the guarantor refs back yet... not quite time to panic yet. Thanks guys, just feeling a little calmer now
