What will i be entitled to

Hi all i am thinking of having another baby and was just wondered what extra would i get if i was to do so???

The reason i ask this is dh is not as keen as i to have another dc and think part of it is the money side.
He works full time but we are not exaclty rolling in cash (buts thats no excuse not to have chidren) I just thought that if i could tell him what help we would be getting then it might help.

I have at the mo a 4yo ds, i do not work and as i said dh works full time.

umm.....

oh ok I cant comment... Im not one for saying 'only the rich should procreate' although i know that is how this will come across.

But you are aware of the new budget today? People are sacrificing a hell of a lot to pull this country back to safety after the recession.

Instead of asking 'what am I entitled to?' maybe you should be asking - what can we do to help.

Would it hurt to wait maybe a year or so in order to save some money? Or work a way that you could work for a while yourself so that you could afford to have a bigger family?

If you really want ot work it out google ' tax credit calculator' and it should have the answers for you.

But this makes me

foureleven · 22/06/2010 15:10

I meant to say at the beginning 'i cant not comment

AgentProvocateur · 22/06/2010 15:13

What foureleven said.

EasilyConfusedIndith · 22/06/2010 15:16

The decision of whether or not you can afford another baby should never take any benefits and grants into account. You never know if these are going to reduce or be taken away completely.

pontypandy · 22/06/2010 15:18

why does this make you sad!!! Im sorry but why should i have to wait to add more love to my family, all i was asking is a simple question. But aparently im too "poor to have children"

OP posts:
foureleven · 22/06/2010 15:21

Lots of people are too poor to have any more children ponty pandy. Its a sad fact im afraid. And easilyconfused is right, relying on benefits is a procarious thing to do if you can help it.

EasilyConfusedIndith · 22/06/2010 15:27

As a household you have to live within your income. Personally I believe children have to be included in that. Obviously your financial circumstances can change but you shouldn't plan to do something you can't afford. Just as we didn't take into account our tax credits etc when deciding how much we could afford for a mortgage we would not take them into account when deciding on further children.

As foureleven has said, plenty of people are too poor to have more children. It might not be an easy thing to accept but surely raising one child well is better than raising several in poverty.

Not as as we are!

all the best with whatever you decide to do.

piratecat · 22/06/2010 17:04

for heavens sake.

op, you would get child benefit, which EVERYONE gets. tax creditwise I am not sure.

judgey lot.

piratecat · 22/06/2010 17:06

people are scarificing a hell of alot to pull this country back out of recession.

lolol. and that's op's fault?

LIZS · 22/06/2010 17:07

Unfortunately means do and should come into such a decision. If you don't get CTC/WFTC etc now then you probably won't with a second. Perhaps your dh is being sensible and doesn't want the added financial pressure ? Maybe you could find work for a year or so (is your ds at or going to school soon ?) and then review if you have managed to save ?

pontypandy · 22/06/2010 17:08

i was mearly asking what i would be intileted to as the budget has really got me quite confused.

Could somebody please explain what the baby element of ctc is??

OP posts:
foureleven · 22/06/2010 17:09

piratecat I think everyone is particularly judgey today becuase a lot of people who genuinely rely on benefits are scared of losing them.. i mean people who have had their partners leave them with children, the elderly, disabled etc etc and OP is asking what she is 'entitled to' and planning to put her family in a situation where they need to rely on governemtn money deliberatly.

Its a sore subject at the moment.

pontypandy · 22/06/2010 17:09

yes i do get ctc and wtc now.

OP posts:
foureleven · 22/06/2010 17:10

No, its not her fault of course. I didnt say it was did I? I was just stating we all have to do our bit.

foureleven · 22/06/2010 17:11

go on that tax credit calculator I mentioned on the gov website. It should work it all out.

pontypandy · 22/06/2010 17:28

taxcredstaxcredits.hmrc.gov.uk/Qualify/DIQHousehold.aspx

Just answer the questions imagining that you had a baby... but it changes after a year old so that amount is only what you'll get until baby is 1. Then it goes down.

You'll have to fill it in for your husband using his details though as he is the one that is working.

bumpybecky · 22/06/2010 17:46

411 will that one be up to date already? I bed the coding monikeys haven't fixed the new figures in at the back end of the site yet.

given that the what's new page links to the changes in april 2006 you might need to wait a while....

pontypandy · 22/06/2010 17:48

thanks 411.

Just did it but yes that is a very good point bumpy lol

OP posts:
foureleven · 22/06/2010 18:09

I think the new calculations will only affect those on 40k plus a year. I dont know if thats more or less than your household ponty.

Not sure of the details, we get bugger all!

may19 · 22/06/2010 19:09
