Help - don't understand the Gift Aid section in tax return form

I think I ticked a Gift Aid box when paying for tickets at The London Transport Museum and again when sponsoring someone doing the marathon or something like that. Is that something I need to declare on my Tax Return Form ... was I supposed to have kept a note of that (because I didn't)????

PANIC!

Umm...... Cant beleive youre worried about this... ignore it. If you had given 20k.. maybe.

I think I have a phobia when it comes to filling in forms ... I go stupid just looking at them!

Maybe I shouldn't have written 'PANIC' but it's just that I don't understand that bit of the form and so came on here for clarification.

If we were supposed to keep a note of when we hit 'Gift Aid' boxes then to be honest that'd probably put me off ticking them as I wouldn't want to have to remember/keep it.

Gift aid is only relevant if you're a higher rate taxpayer as you'd get some tax relief on your gift aid contributions. So if your overall income isn't over £43,785 then you don't need to worry about it.

Of course, on the other hand, if you didn't pay enough tax during the year to cover the tax the charity has reclaimed on your gift aid, then you should (technically) be paying it through your tax return. But, most likely you won't have to worry about it if your income is above about £7,000.

That's really helpful - thank you very much - much appreciated.
