How much does it usually cost to have a will made?

DH and I need to have ours done. Is it possible to DIY a will?! Or does it need to be done by a solicitor? How much roughly can we expect to pay?

You can each do your own with a form from WHS. However, if you have children and you need to allow for every eventuality then go to a local solicitor because it gets complicated. You have to agree what happens if you both die at the same time (ie car crash etc) what happens to kids, also, what will happen if one of you is unable to manage their affairs due to severe ilness etc.

It cost me about £120 which included setting up a trust for ds if I die, stipulating guardianship and storing my will for as long as is necessary. Not cheerful I know but it's done now and I can forget about it.

We (DH and I) waited for Will Aid month (or something like that) and paid a solicitor £110 for mirror wills. We have 2 DCs. The money you pay for the will goes to charity. Think it's usually October each year?

Kathyjelly, hope you don't mind me asking but is your family complete?

We've been meaning to do this for age (Our DS is 2) and we have another on the way but dunno if we're done after that?
Does it cost a lot to update with each child?
Trust sounds good - and yes, not cheerful but def important to do.
