Does anyone know anything about CCJs?

We're in the process of renting a flat. I have a good credit rating, bank references etc. but my partner has two CCJs. I've told the letting agent this in advance and they seem to think it's no problem.

My question is this, when they run the credit check, do they get to see what you got the ccj for, or will it just come back 'failed'??

TIA

It will just come back with CCJ, date, amount and Court details I think. If they really wanted to know they can write and ask the Court for details.

If he has settled the amount after the CCJ he can apply to the Court to get a certificate to prove its been dealt with (there is a proper name for this but I can't remember it!). If he has already done this it should come up on his credit rating.

If they're more than 6 years old then they won't show up at all.

Hope this helps

Yes, as Auberginesrus said they will see all those details and type of crdit e.g credit card, Certificate of Satisfaction is whats needed if cleared.

thanks. So, if you had a ccj with the gas board, for example, it would say British Gas for x on x date would it?

Thanks Auberginesrus, I'll get him to pay it and get one of those certificates.

Don't agree about the 6 year time limit. I had a CCJ from years and years ago and I still cannot get credit in my own name. Standing at the till in shops I am always asked - Have you got a store card? No. Do you want one. No thank you. Sometimes I say yes and let them go through the process just to watch their face when it comes back no - and they have to tell me. Our credit card company will not deal with me over the phone, as I am not the main card holder, DH is. Doesn't really bother me as I am rubbish with credit cards (the paying off bit). But it does seem crazy when students with no money can get a credit card, and I can't when I have an income (on paper) of £48K. I suppose it could have something to do with one of the companies I was in hock to was Barclaycard . I offered them a small amount to pay off the debt which they accepted - but I presume they put a BIG Black Mark against my name. They do not seem to take into account that circumstances change, and we do grow up. So be careful.

VigourMortis - I regularly run credit checks on people via one of the big credit referencing firms and I see who has the CCJ, how much it was for and when it was granted.

I also see if their partner or anyone connected to them has one too and how much for and when it as granted.

It will clear it is not your CCJ.

Yes, there is a code for utility bill ccj, it will always say the name, date of defualt and amount. If yours is the primary name on the application I cannot see too much of a problem, but you may find yourself in the situation where it passed in your single name but fails when run joint, have seen that many times.
