Giving notice on tenancy - quick question

We are on a rolling contract with a month notice period and I am just typing a letter to give our notice.

Our tenancy started on the 3rd of November last year and our rent is due on the 3rd of each month.

Do I say we want to end our tenancy on the 2nd or the 3rd of September (we are moving out during August and want the last rent payment to be 3rd August)?

I don't want to be misunderstood and end up paying an extra month's rent.

I think on the 2nd....because the 3rd would be the start of the next month

Yes that's what I thought..until I read something that said the date your rent is due.

I think I'll play it safe and put the 2nd.

Yes, its the 2nd.

If your notice period is four weekly or 30 days rather than one calendar month you can save yourself some money by paying just from the date of your notice.

So if you date and submit the letter tomorrow (29th) you would pay up until the 29th of August. You've already paid up until 2 August, so you only pay for the 27 remaing days.

You need to work out your daily rent by multiplying your monthly rent by 12 and dividing by 365. Then multiply that by 27 to get the exact rent you owe.

We did this when we moved from rented to bought and our estate agent was fine with it. Do check your notice, though.
