basically booked two hotel rooms last week and sent a cheque as a deposit, have since found out that dp's father has to back overseas urgently and therefore we wont be staying in the hotel.
Have just spoke to bb owner and was told that she will cash cheque anyway!! the money isnt even in the account, and isnt likely to be as the cheque was sent with a letter stating that we would be paying cash on check out. Can i stop the cheque (which is for a £100)?

Why not ask her not to cash the cheque until the money is in the account?

Okay - B&B owner speaking now, did she send you terms and conditions of booking? £100 seems a lot for a deposit, we charge £10 per room deposit and ask for the rest on arrival, maybe we are too trusting but (touch wood) we haven't had any problems so far.

I know that some Hoteliers up here will refund if they relet the room. Do they have a website? Maybe the terms and conditions will be on there for you to read through.

ok, spoke again to owner earlier. She has already made arrangements to re-let one room, i then suggested that I make a payment of £50 to cover other room, which she agreed.
I realise that it was short notice, but due to the bombings in egypt, DP's father has had to urgently go back overseas.

Incidently, no she didnt send any terms and conditions, she also made no suggestion that the deposit would be non-returnable until i phoned to say that we would have to cancel.

She will have no problem re-letting the room in the town in which she is situated, it took me 5 days of ringing around to get a room there.

thanks again for all of your suggestions, I dont want anyone to think that I was messing the lady and her business around, £100 is a lot of money to lose for anyone.
