Have you been on maternity leave this year, and claim tax credits?

If you have been on maternity leave this year and claim tax credits, you can disregard £100 per week that you are on paid mat leave from your income when you declare it to tax credits. Over the 39 weeks that is £3900, so worth knowing about!

Apparently it is written on the annual review form but I never saw it so missed out on the chance to disregard £3100 from 08-09. Knocked £800 off this year though which has been nice for the last few weeks

Spread the word! I'm going to repost this on other topics because if you try to go back to a year before this one they won't recalculate it.

so to clarify? as obvioulsy I will be filling in my tax credits form soon, I started maternity leave from 24th december 2009, so i would deduct 100 pound per week from my earnings when filling in my form??? which would be 14 week from the 24th december to the 5th april?? so I take off 1400 from my earnings for 2009/2010??? sorry ive got baby brain and always panic about getting overpaid and then my payments getting reduced

A little assistance please

I realised a month ago that the renewal of my tax credit award in April 2014 was incorrect and I did not take off my SMP from the total income I declared to the HMRC.

I informed them via phone of this error but have received a letter to say they cannot do anything as they were informed after the August deadline

Has anyone had experience of this and can I appeal it and get a back payment?
