just trying to work out if we can manage on one income (dh may lose job).
have been on tax credits site but cant get a proper idea because they dont ask for earnings so,
we are family of 5 and i take home £1600 per month will we get more than the £40 per month tax credits that we currently get?
does anyone else have a similar income?

Entitledto.com might give you an idea.

I think you would, I'd phone them and ask. I'm a single parent with one child and take home £1850, I get £10 a week and also child benefit.

I am sure I read somewhere (but can't find it now) that for tax credits purposes the salary cut off for a family with 3 children is £25k. If you earn more than that you will only get the basic rate of £10 pw.

My dh earns on average £1600 pm and we are not entitled to more than the basic tax credits (we have 2 kids so the salary cut off is lower anyway). I don't know if they have changed that with the new tax year coming up though.
