Hi, not good relationship with step mum but over the years i have tried for sake of my kids.just been informed my dad is in early stages of alzheimers and step mum says i will receive forms from her solicitors soon to tell me her son has been made poa for my dad.my dad never liked her son and a few years ago confided in me that he borrowed 7k and never paid my dad back a penny.dad lives miles away from me and step mum says they are moving to scotland where her son is as my dad will get free care when he goes into a home,i am waiting on the forms but wondered if anyone had any advise.my dad is a lovely but timid man who has worked hard all his life and always been very careful about money.this just feels wrong.any advise would be great thanks

Bumping for you.
I'm not surprised it feels wrong. It does sound as though your dad's not having much of a say in things. (Maybe for the quiet life).

Take a look at the office of the public guardian website it contains a lot of useful info including how to object to LPA. Have you spoken to you Dad about it, the solicitor would have to of made sure he understood the decision he was making and that he was capable of making that decision.

thank you so much for your replies.apparantly i will be receiving letters from solicitors soon and i have an elder sister who will then get involved.my dad was a very clever man and very careful with money and i asked him on the phone if he understood what was going on but he was very vague and said everything was so confusing! so no,he didnt understand!he has already been diagnosed with alzheimers but there is still a chance his wife could be the first to pass away,in which case her son will then be left dealing with our dads affairs.yes,i shall be contesting.thank you for the website, really hepfull.
