Anyone swapped bank accounts recently?

Sorry if this has been done to death before. I am livid with Lloyds for charging me £120 for being overdrawn (accidently) by £28 for 7 days. I know banks will all charge for going overdrawn, but £120!! I have been with Lloyds for 20 years and I don't ever remember being overdrawn before. Anyway, I am going to challenge the cost, but was wondering if anyone could recommend a new bank account. Are all the big banks the same? Would welcome any experiences/comments.
Thank you.

We have been with Lloyds for years and had a similar situation a while ago.

Charges are automatically made by a computer.

When we spoke to our branch and explained that it was the first time ever, only a small amount, only for a short while, and a genuine mistake, they were really good and straightaway removed the charge. They then set up an overdraft facility, which we don't use, but is there as a safety net, just in case the same thing happened.

I think it would be worth chatting to them. They will want to keep your business. Certainly worth a try. If you change banks and something happens in the future you would not have the trump card of saying "I have been with you for 20 + years...."

Good luck!

This happened when we transferred to Smile. When we rang them up and explained they immediately refunded the charges. Def worth speaking to someone, good luck

I had a battle with HSBC when I went in to o/d because of their charges - their reasoning (which was probably right) was that I needed to be on top of finances and budget for this... grrrr.

Any recommendations for banks to change to would be appreciated also.
