Renting our house - do we need to tell mortgage lender?

Looking into renting out our house later this year, but do we HAVE to tell our mortgage lender? Surely if we keep on paying (which we will!) then we can stay on the same deal?

Our fixed deal comes up summer 2011 so will re-mortgage then and if still renting out our place, do we have to tell them them or can we just carry on 'pretending' we are occupying the house?

First of all - yes, you should tell them as it may effect on the terms of the mortgage. Second - consider a reliable loan lending company. I used Find Lender once to find a reliable loan lender. However, you should turn to professionals, do not think that anonymous users will hep you solve this issue.

annablanch do you work for the company you are promoting - or did you just 'happen' to be trawling through some 6 year old thread and mention it to someone through the mists of time to 2010!! Lol indeed!

I do know that lots of people don't. The mortgage company are extremely unlikely to find out, but it does invalidate any insurance.

You don't tell them you ASK them for permission to let. They can say no. Each lender will have criteria for acceptance.

To not ask or to rent it out when they say no is a breach of your mortgage agreement and can lead to your lender removing the mortgage meaning you would owe them the balance immediately.

Saying that plenty of people rent out their property without permission.
