Home insurance renewal

I just got our home insurance renewal quote.

Went online with the same provider just to check it out and it was 20% cheaper with 0 excess as opposed to £75 excess on the renewal quote.

Bought the new policy to start at the end of the month, job done.

Phoned up the company to explain that I was not switching provider but had bought the policy online as seemed a better deal.

The guy on the phone was so "off" with me and kept saying I was losing out on loads of benefits, but when I asked him what they were, they were all total bollocks.

At the end of the day they are still getting my money, just a little less of it so why all the fuss?!

He didn't mention what I have done was "not allowed" but I was wondering if anyone else has done this?

i did, I renewed car insurance with Tesco in my name and not DH's(who is no longer on the policy thanks to his 12 points in the last five years). I got £40 tesco vouchers too!

Not just me then!

I guess they just rely on ppl not bothering to check....

The guy on the phone seemed to take it very personally LOL!

We have just done this too. We used to insure our home and contents with our mortgage lender but the premium has been gradually increasing over the years. No doubt to compensate for the fact that our mortgage payments have been reduced.

DH spent a few hours online and got us a much better deal. When we cancelled the old policy they were falling over themselves to offer us a better deal. DH told them to stick it and that they should have made more effort to retain our custom.

I did this too with our insurance, and do it with our RAC cover too - I join as a new member in DH's name every other year, and my name the other year. It knocks a substantial amount off the annual premium compared to renewing the existing cover.

Usually do this every year with tesco car insurance. Always in my name, and always cheaper if I come back as a new customer.

I always go through Moneysupermarket.com just to see what everyone else is quoting too.
