How much is your water bill?

I noticed today that the direct debit for our water bill is £55 per month and I was very shocked - this seems really high to me?

There's just DH, 2 yr old DD and me living in our 3 bed, 2 bath house. I probably run the dishwasher and washing machine once a day. We tend to have daily showers, with the occasional bath (apart from DD who has a shallow bath every night). Oh, and our garden is tiny. We are not on a meter.

It's be really useful to get some idea of what others are paying before I go to Thames Water guns blazing.

Thanks in advance.

£42 pcm.
This is on a meter. We probably use 2 short power showers, one washing machine cycle, one dishwasher cycle, and one small bath for the DC. In the summer we use a bit on the garden. I am paranoid about turning taps off when cleaning teeth, not overfilling kettles, using dish-water on plants etc.

We are with Thames water.
2 adults, 2 children in a three bed, one bathroom house.
Dishwasher run daily and at a very minimum washing machine used once a day ( normally twice or more).

Our Direct debit is currently £35

pay 1/2 yearly.
1 adult, 7yo and 3yo.
I have a daily shower, boys share a bath about twice a week.
Washing machine approx 5 loads a week.
Dishwasher approx every 2 days.

On a meter, total approx £400 a year.

£45 per month on a "social" tarrif. Ie the lowest one for people who are on a low income who have 3 or more children or a household member who has a health condition that requires more water.

There is just me and DS. Our region has one of the highest water bills in the country. In a nearby region the social tariff the amount is £25. Thats a huge difference of £20 per month or £240 per year.

our previous house in surrey(thames water??) was £250 a year.

just moved to a house on a meter (anglian water) and now i am dreading the first bill as dh will go monkey poo and will try and ration water

Thanks everyone

This has confirmed my suspicions that it will be well worth following up with Thames Water to make sure we're not paying over the odds. And should £55/mth turn out to be correct then we need to have a close look at our water consumption, as that's a crazy amount to be paying.

£25 a month. That's for 2 adults and 2 children. 3 showers a day. No dish washer and probably 3-4 loads of washing a week.

hmmm £64.87 a month for 10 months. So £648.70 for a 3 bed house and family of 3 sometimes 4 not metered tho!!

Hi Rindercella

If you're not on a meter than your water consumption will make no difference at all - you could have a million baths a day and it would still be £55 a month, or you could have one bath a month between you and it would still be £55 a month.

When you're not on a meter it is a set consistent rate.

If you think that you would be cheaper on a meter then go for it, then look at your water consumption.
