Hi Happpy
Not sure exactly how it works. I am about to claim, but have been working as self employed within the last however many weeks.
It is my understanding that if you have paid your national insurance, then that is all the info they need, I mean they don't want to see your tax returns or anything else.
You can download the form or view it online to find out here is a link to government website explaining it. It doesn't explicitly say you must have workd for 26 weeks if you are self employed. I think that is more relevant for people who have worked but can't get statutory maternity pay.
hope that helps

if she was on maternity leave before this will count as "being employed".
