What IS this company's problem? They are making my life far harder than it needs to be

I am supposed to pay my rent by standing order, to go out a couple of days before the rent is actually due. Because some of the people I work for are unreliable bastards, sometimes the standing order bounces - if this happens I get the rent in by means of paying it directly in cash into the agents' account so there is no waiting for anything to clear. Yet the bastards still take up to a month to pay it over to the landlord, who then hounds me endlessly.
WHy can't they just pay it over, if it is in their account on the due day, with the reference attached?

Because they are twats.

HTH

Actually if I were you I would write to the landlord whenever this happens and state that you have paid it in cash and ask that he contacts the agency if he hasn't been paid because it's their problem not yours.

CarGirl · 27/11/2009 19:15

ask the landlord if you pay him his share direct? Sounds like the agency are using his money to keep them afloat.

nancy75 · 27/11/2009 19:16

can you speak to the agent about paying it in cash every month? (if its not too much of a pita to do it) they probably just look at a computer screen and see that your standing order hasn't gone through and dont bother looking any further than that. if they know just to look for a cash payment every month they might get it right.

He says the agency tell him that it;s because it wasn't paid by standing order. I cant make sense of this: the money is there in their account when it is due to be, so what difference does it make, even if there is an automated process?

I go in to the agency and show them the bank deposit slip, when it happens, and tell them that the money is there in their account. They say 'That's fine, then.' And a fortnight later Mr Scary Landlord is ringing up and ranting again because he hasn't had it.

The I would take it up with the agency. Make a formal complaint to them. Your dealings should be with either the agent OR the landlord - not both.

nancy75 · 27/11/2009 19:21

is it a big agency (yourmove or similar?)

SolidGoldBangers · 27/11/2009 20:33

It's a big agency, yes (won't name them though). Branches on every high st, etc.

we rent through your move, all their accounts/ payments ect go through a central office, miles away. it could be that the people in your branch are telling you, yeah yeah its all ok and not passing info to the people that deal with it. complain to their h/o
