Should I fill out just for myself or can I do it jointly with DH whom we are partners really. We work at home and we are both self employed in same work. I'm supposing that it's cheaper if we do it together rather than separately. Also how do you fill out for joint self employment or is there such a thing..??? SOOOO CONFUSING I have never done tax before.

You need an accountant or some proper advice, it's rather complicated

agree that you need an accountant.

It does sound as though you need an accountant or tax adviser.

It may be useful for you to understand that if you are in partnership with your husband you will need to register the partnership with HMRC, obtain a 10 digit UTR (Unique Tax Reference) and complete a partnership Tax return. This return shows all the income for the partnership and allocates it between the partners. The partnership does not pay tax itself.

Once you have done the partnership return you each have to complete an Individual tax return (you should each have your own UTR)and on these you show your share of the income of the partnership (from the Partnership return) along with any other income. You then pay tax based on the individual returns.

All the tax returns for the 2008/9 tax year need to be submitted by 31 January 2010 and may need to be filed online to avoid penalties. When did you start self-employment - if you have not done so you should register as soon as possible.

Hope this helps.
