The Puddytats horrible problem

puddytats · 16/06/2005 18:18

The advice we have received on here has been fantastic as well as the level of support, as things have developed threads have got more complicated and mixed up so I thought I would sum it all up here as we would like to continue to receive advice and help!

Last Thursday dh was suspended from work. It is alleged that he 'created a client' and took the money.

The cheques were changed at some point after the partners signed the cheque, we know this because there are photocopies of the cheques. One was then changed into dh name and one into my maiden name.

A 'file' was set up that has since disappeared.

The cheques were then paid into our personal bank accounts and transferred out again. This all happened last August and January. How we did not notice I do not know but we just did not.

2 days ago a second person was also suspended from work. This person was trained by DH.

DH signiture and computer log ins are all over the paperwork as when he did some work on the client he believed it was a genuine client. He is not the only person to have done some work on this 'client'

I know that many reading this will say he did it, but he 3000% did not. It is not in his nature. He also has fairly wealthy parents so if we needed money all we had to do was ask. We have an 18 month old and a 5 week old and our world has been ripped apart.

We are seeking legal advice and will fight this all the way.

Again many thanks for the huge support that we have received.

I wouldn't expect someone embezzling money to put it straight into a bank account of their name, I must say.

AND if money had gone out of your account, since it is out of YOUR account, shouldn't the bank be telling you - and / or your solicitor - where it went?

Sounds like a computer job - can your solicitor demand access to the IT by an expert on your behalf?

Nightynight · 16/06/2005 21:36

pixiefish,
we have a program at work, there is an icon on our desktops, where we can "sign over" our computer to someone in IT, so they control the mouse etc.

Its just a souped up sort of telnet, really.

NEVER ever assume that anything you do on a work pc connected to the work network is private. Its only private as long as the guys in IT aren't too bored, or management hasn't asked them to keep tabs on you for some reason.

bossykate · 16/06/2005 21:50

omgoodness - you have a 5wk old baby!

i'm so sorry you are going through such a bad time at such a bad time

Janh · 16/06/2005 21:54

DH logs into his office PC from home, and people in the office muck about with the mouse when he's not looking.

He doesn't do anything personal at work.

mancmum · 16/06/2005 21:58

you really have got to get the IT side of this investigated ASAP -- IT guys have all sorts of accesses and it could make sense of how all this has happened if the IT guy was part of it with maybe someone in your DH's office doing their bit... not sure how you can do this though..

morningpaper · 17/06/2005 10:03

Nightynight: ALWAYS assume that IT bods are VERY BORED. I worked as years in IT support and we'd spend hours lookng through people's darkest secrets. It's also fascinating how many people's passwords are things like "upmyarse" and "bigjugs"...

Nightynight · 17/06/2005 11:56

Yeah, one of the frightfully nice Indian contractors at work really embarrassed himself one day when he had to tell me what his team's password for some test equipment was! He had to spell it out because he couldn't bring himself to say it to a woman! I typed it in in a very heavy silence.

starlover · 17/06/2005 12:00

what was it?????

Nightynight · 17/06/2005 12:08

i cant even remember, but it was something about big ones!

jambo1707 · 17/06/2005 12:25

Pt

Can you getthe bank statement that these payments were on??

It should show what was paid in and how it was withdrawn, then hopefully the bank will investigate further.

Sure if it was happening to them it would be cleared up, chin up and keep fighting we are all routig for you

Jillyk · 17/06/2005 15:06

I don't think bank's normally have a problem with maiden/married names. I use my maiden name at work but my salary is paid into an account in my married name. Although the account was originally in my maiden name which may make things easier.

SaintGeorge · 17/06/2005 15:13

Jillyk - but is it paid in by cheque or by BACS transfer? BACS security rules are different to those for over the counter transactions like cheques.

I rang my bank yesterday and told them I had a cheque in my maiden name and could I pay it in. They said no, even though account was previously in maiden name and they know me as I have worked at the branch.

LIZS · 17/06/2005 15:20

Surely they should be able to send you copies of the relevant statements so you could see how these transactions went through. I too would be suspicious of someone in IT but I would have thought the bank needs to take this more seriously too as their security sounds as if it has been breeched.

Have you closed that account now ?

Jillyk · 20/06/2005 09:49

Yes, it's paid in by BACS. I didn't realise the rules were different.
