Had a baby and our Tax Credits have shot up! Can this be correct?

We have had DC5 last month. Our TCs were previously about £40 a month. We are now apparently to get about £200. Surely this can't be right?

there is the baby element but that does seem a lot for it to have gone up by, I would give them a ring

echofalls · 18/09/2009 15:57

probably the baby element has bumped it up

Ceolas · 18/09/2009 16:40

I rang them and they said that is correct. Still feel very nervous as we seem to hear so many cock-up stories about TCs...

If it is a cock up and you have given all the right info and checked (ie it is there cock up) you won't have to pay it back if they decide, next week, month, or year that in fact they were wrong. But there is a baby element that applies for the first year which might explain it...

check it on www.entitledto.com

This should help tax credit rates

nappyaddict · 18/09/2009 17:19

The baby element is about £50 or £60 so that would be right.

easymover · 19/09/2009 09:23

sorry this might help

HappyMummyOfOne · 19/09/2009 12:12

It doesnt sound right if you were on min tax credits before as a second child makes no difference on basic tax credits other than the baby element for the first year which is £50 extra a month.

If you have childcare costs for both then this ca make a difference.

Oops sorry, just seen you have 5 children so ignore above.
