Making a will without a solicitor

Hi. Am thinking of trying to save the £250 fee for a visit and drawing up a will by using an online will maker or a prepaid form. Has anyone used these and what was the experience - I think I mean has anyone had a friend or reletive who has used one. Do they work? Are they legally binding? There is always unpleasantness after a death due to an overdose of emotions, so wish to avoid this. Will would be very simple - after care and funeral costs are met, everything to be divided equally between two children, if they are not living, all should go to one grandchild. ('Everything' is really very little!)

Not quite the answer to your question, but might help: we used Will Aid - local solicitor will draw up a simple will in exchange for a donation to one of several well-known charities. Was considerably less than £250. Will Aid happens every November.
