Speeding ticket - DH in my car

Hi

Sorry in advance for ignorance but never got a speeding ticket before. DH was doing 37 in a 30 in my car - didn't realise until I got the letter this weekend. Now as I wasn't driving - do all I need to fill in is section 5 with his details - me sign it and send it back? Do I not need to include his driving number anywhere?

DH had a nasty shock about this as he only got in licence in Aug 07 and can't get any more points now otherwise he'll have to retake his test. I've had a bit of a shock too as been driving for 18 years and not got a ticket before

you need to fill in with his details and send back, and they will then send a new form for him to complete with all his details. he will prob be given option of 3 points on licence or a speed awareness workshop. either way he will have to pay £60. the SAW is not available to all - depends on his history.

I just did this---was caught speeding in our car which is registered under DH's name. Once you fill in the details and return it, your DH will get an identical letter asking him to confirm he was the driver and then he will need to give his DL details. Hopefully he will get offered the chance to go to the Speed Awareness Workshop. (It didn't help me much though, I've had two tickets since!)

Cheers for that - he's only had a full licence since Aug 2007 - no other points etc. So hopefully he might get offered the speed awareness workshop?

I did this in dh's car. He got the letter, sent it back with my details, and I got a letter about a week after that.

No Speeding Awareness courses offered here, so I got 3 points and a £60 fine.

Happened me 2 weeks ago I was doing 36 in a 30 zone.

I've been offered the course and am waiting to hear where/when it is. It's the first time anything like this has happened to me - I cried my eyes out when I opened the letter

Liskey · 26/05/2009 17:25

I felt like crying too - my Gran has just died and I saw that and started swearing and saying I'm being done for speeding! Then I started working out when it was and realised it wasn't me (as I was visiting Gran that weekend). DH is mortified about it - he's upset that he's done it in my car. I hope he gets offered the course - there was a leaflet saying it might be offered.

He should get offered the course Liskey - as far as I know they offer it to anyone who has a clean record and who was only going a certain amount over the limit iyswim.

Rubbish feeling though

Liskey · 26/05/2009 21:35

Thanks for that - I know he'd do the course rather than have points.

I know it's a horrible feeling - I felt awful thinking I'd been speeding and then I worked out it wasn't me. So I do know how you and he feel - he kept apologising for it (and has been sticking to the speed limit competely now). Saying that I'm now sticking to the limit as well - I was reassuring him saying its more luck than judgement that I haven't been caught in all these years - its woken me up and made me realise how much I'd hate to have points.

I got 3 points last year (my first, I have been driving for 20 years).

No speed awareness courses offered here, it was 3 points and a £60 fine, that's it.

kierenm · 27/05/2009 10:36

Since you've never had a ticket before, you can only hope that he learns to keep a closer eye on the speedo in future- (some people I know just can't seem to do this as they're always getting fines!) Then again, it can be hard to stay out of trouble when on long trips etc as I've learned in the past

BunnyLebowski · 27/05/2009 10:44

It can be hard kierenm - I was coming over a hill and the speed limit changed from 40 to 30.....I slowed down but because of the momentum from the hill I couldn't slow quickly enough

Now I am so so careful and always stick to the limit. The downside of that is the arseholes who don't seem to care about the speed limit and drive really aggressively up your ass
