Will I lose my driving licence?

I have 6 points on my licence and have just got 2 speeding tickets in a week!

3 of the points were 3 years old in March but just looked at the DVLA Website and it says they have to stay on there for 4 years!

What happens when you get to 12 points?

I'm not excusing myself or anything but all of the points were for doing about 5 miles over the speed limit!

Tbh, yes I think you will lose your licence.

You will lose your licence when you get to 12 points. You can opt to appear in court (I think) to try and put across an argument to keep it. I guess that would be something like having disabled relative to transport daily or something.

fruitstick · 20/05/2009 13:13

How long do the points stay on though - is it 3 or 4 years?

The points only count for totting up for 3 years, although they cannot be removed from your licence for 4 years.

If you get 12 points on your licence in a 3 year period you are disqualified from driving.

You will only have 9 points on your licence, so you will be ok, but one more speeding ticket (or any other endorsable offence) and you will be banned.

here you go

123andaway · 20/05/2009 13:18

'12 points within a period of 3 years'

You only have 9 points within 3 years, the other 3 became 'spent' in March.

fruitstick · 20/05/2009 13:22

phew - and another 3 are 3 years old in August.

Must pay more attention when driving.

I've just moved to a new area and there seem to be mobile cameras everywhere!

You need a Road Angel device... i got one on ebay for £50 approx. It has changed my life... I can look at the road instead of the speedo as I drive now.

ChampagneDahling · 21/05/2009 11:10

Yes I agree that you should be ok on this occasion but do take a care, can you really afford to lose your licence?

CouldYouWouldYouWithaGoat · 21/05/2009 11:12

'I can look at the road instead of the speedo as I drive now. ' or alternatively slow down.

Numberfour · 21/05/2009 17:52

i agree, couldyouwouldyou.

JodieO · 21/05/2009 17:54

I agree, just slow down. I'm sure if you killed someone by speeding it would change their and their relatives lives too. I don't see why people feel the need to have devices like that when it's better all round just to slow down.

It's not that easy to drive a steady 29mph without having your eye on the speedo all the time, rather than the road.

And there are areas in the UK where they have speed cameras and very very few speed limit signs. You see a camera and have no idea what the speed limit is - Staffordshire comes to mind.

I don't have one of those Road Angel devices, but I can imagine they are useful. And most accidents car caused by bad driving not drving at 42 mph in a 40 mph limit. For example, it's amazing how many German brand cars don't have indicators! Driving too slowly can be just as dangerous as well.

drive in first gear all the time
