BIL soon to be released from prison. Facing deportation. Where can we get advice?

My BIL will come to the end of a prison sentance next month. As he is a foreign national he will face deportation but will appeal this decision as he has a child with whom he has a good relationship. My sister has a lawyer involved to appeal the decision and they will request bail. It will take at least 6 months to resolve. Does anyone know if there is any help/govn support/charity that would help him during this time. He will not be able to work, will need somewhere to live (relationship with my sister (his wife) is difFicult)and money for food

Has he been told that he will be issued with a deportation order on his release?

Foreign nationals do not automatically get deported at the end of a sentence. It could depend on his offence/how long his sentence was amongst other things.

We think it is "likley" he will get issued with a deportation issue. Sentance was 8 years for importation of a class A drug

I think it is likely too, with that length of sentence. Do you know if the judge recommended deportation when he was sentenced?

It may be that even if he appeals, he will taken directly from prison and held in an immigration centre until the outcome of his appeal rather than being released - especially if he has no address to put forward. Without a fixed address they may consider him a risk of "disappearing".

Is there any probation service involvement? They may be able to advise you further. You could also try Prisoners Families and Friends or NACRO .

The lawyer has said that he can apply for bail which would avoid the detention centre bit.....but the issue is that my sister although she wants to keep him in the UK for their young son. she does not want him to live in her house. She is looking at renting him a flat or something ...but concerned about how she can fund his board and lodging for amny months...hence the original Q about support.

Any probation people out there who could suggest what support my BIL might be able to access when (or if) he is released on bail to appeal against a deportation order?

Unavailable..I cant remember if the judge recomended deportation...but I know currently his status id "intention to deport"
