I'm getting paranoid now, does this sound odd? Have I done the wrong thing? (tax credits question again)

I'm a health care student and recieve a bursary which, according to the boffins at the tax office, is not counted as income so I can't get working tax credits for this so I set up a business doing all sorts (ironing, designing t-shirts, clothing alterations, writing childrens books) for 16 hours a week which I get working tax credits for. I don't earn alot from this but when combined with the bursary and tax credits mean ds and I can live. They have sent me a letter asking me to contact them to confirm some details. Have I done the wrong thing? We won't be able to pay the bills if I've screwed up. On paper (according to them), my income is not alot as they don't see my bursary as income. Am I wrong?

TIA

I don't really know about WTC, Bunny, but HMRC (assume that's who you mean by They) will just be trying to understand your position, as it isn't straightforward. Don't panic, just give them what they are looking for.

Thankyou. I work so much. The course is full time (if you can call it that), I sew etc on the days when I have no lectures and some evenings. Each t-shirt I make takes a while as they are hand embroidered. They do look nice though but are time consuming. There isn't alot workwise out there. Local pubs and shops are closing down. What if I've got it all wrong?

I'm sure you haven't, but if there is something wrong, hopefully they can look with a bit of compassion at your situation (please note before everyone jumps down my throat I've no first hand experience of tax credits, but have always found other bits of HMRC helpful)

I'd be the first to admit that it looks like I have almost nothing coming into the house money wise without them taking the bursary into account. I don't mind them asking as I don't have anything to hide. It's easy to become paraniod though.

Thankyou.
