What bank would you recommend?

I have had a bad experience with lloyds and feel like I want to change banks. I currently have a platinum account which is £15 a month and gives me aa breakdown cover, mobile phone insurance and a couple of other benfits. So would like something similar. Any ideas?
Sorry I know it is not the most interesting topic for a sunday morning

Have used First Direct for years with no problems at all so would recommend them. Don't know about the benefits though.

EvenBetaDad · 10/05/2009 10:32

First Direct are great. TBH I think the service is key and I am happy without other benefits.

orangehead · 10/05/2009 10:43

Thanks might have a look at them

first direct great, we also have first directory which give annual travel insurance, breakdown cover, hotel discounts, mobile phone insurance etc for about £10 a month (I think) customer service excellent

mankyscotslass · 10/05/2009 10:46

Have been with First Direct for years, no problems. Not sure about benefits apart from no hassle!

poopscoop · 10/05/2009 10:49

Nationwide have been very good. Not got any complaints about them.

First Direct

Duckfuzz - is first directory with first direct? Travel insurance and discounts were the other benefits but could'nt think of them at the time.

First Direct also, they do have a paid up "premium account" but we don't have one, just bog standard current accounts and an offest mortgage with them.

I was with Natwest then switched to First Direct. FD are much more straight forward, they answer the phone right away with a person and everything seems much easier. Can def recommend very highly.

It def seems thumbs up for first direct. I have just had a quick look at website, looks good and first directory looks very similar and a bit cheaper bonus. Thanks alot

Just seen on website that there is a £10 charge to bank with them, but it is free if your salary is over £1500 a month. I work part time so it is'nt.

Orange - all you need to do is open another account, for what ever purpose, even a savings account with no savings will do

Then you wont pay the £10 a month

I have three accounts with FD

duckyfuzz · 10/05/2009 19:03

I think FD also give you £100 just for opening an account (and another £100 if you don't like it and close it - can't lost really!)

satine · 11/05/2009 19:50

Hmm - my salary isn't £1500 a month (ha! I wish) but I don't pay £10. Try giving them a call - they're lovely!
