how to cancel a contract

I signed a contract with a conservatory suppier/installer, after being pressured by him with an offer of a discount that applied just for one day. Later on, discovered, that the same job can be done for nearly half the price. He has taken £200 deposit, but the finance has still not been approved. He is waiting for my accountant to send a letter, saying that I will get additional rental income, as my income is not big enough. In the contract, it says, that the company can charge me 10% if I cancel. There is no cooling off period. I told him, that my accountant would not guarantee, that I get this additional income, but he is still pressuring me to go ahead. can someone please give me advise how to cancel that contract without being sued by the company and asked to pay 10%.

Where and when did you sign the contract? If you signed in your home, I'm pretty sure that legally you have 10 days cooling off period, which MUST be honoured. Citizens advice would confirm that I'm sure, ring them today.

That said, this guy already has £200 of your money , and I suspect you won't get that back (was it a cheque, can you cancel it?).

If you can't get finance, you can't go ahead, simple as that, which is what I would tell this conservatory chap.

Put it down to experience. Don't allow yourself to be pressured like this, always get 3 quotes (at least), and a genuine price won't be offered for one day only.
