I just got my p60 - it seems i was paid gross just over 17k - i up my hours slightly last year - I think that means that I wouldnt have been entitled to WFTC as you need to be paid under 17k - but is that under 17k gross or after tax - am so scared they are going to make me pay millions back - I really wish i hadn't bothered claiming in the first place

ps - i did tell them about the increase in hours but was told it wouldnt make a difference

They usually allow for your income to increase by up to £25K in any tax year, unless it was your first year of claiming. Should be OK I think.

if u have been overpaid they will contact u 2 work out a payment plan 2 pay them back eack week- they usually ask u how much u can afford 2 pay back each week, they wont take it all in 1 go xx

I am happy to pay back - can they just not pay me anything until its paid back? thats what I would repfer - seems daft that they would continue to pay and then take back.... would really rahter just stay away from them - do not care if I am entitled - just want them to get it right - its like living with a partner you dont trust - I knew this would happen..........

they wont do that, i am 100 % certain they will take a small amount back each week x

norksinmywaistband · 30/04/2009 22:18

I was overpaid CTC 2 years ago, and they just stopped payments until it was repaid, so it is not impossible for overpayments to be collected in this way

mamof3 · 01/05/2009 07:32

really ? i didnt think they would do that because i was overpaid in 2006 by about £800 and i rang them and they told me it would not be fair to stop payments as the goverment states u need 2 get a certain amount each week therefore they would be taking a small amount each week .
oh well looks like i maybe wrong
i suppose nobodys perfect lol

It does depend on the reasons I think, my friend had her payments stopped straight away but that was because she was childminding but not officially 'declaring' it and just saying she was 'helping out'. One of the mum's was stating her as her registered childminder and she got found out (as she should have been!!)

When I went back to work, I went back full time, then wangled part time then work made me up my hours a bit more. So in one year my hours changed 3 times. I told them every time but it meant my actual salary was a bit more than predicted and I was overpaid. I said just take it off what you pay me for a few months and was told they can't do this as said above you have to have a minimum that government say you need. They are taking it a bit every month.

HTH.
