prenatal Steriods and Cerebral Palsy

I have discovered that there is a link between repeated doses of steriods during pregnancy and Cerebral palsy. Ds1's CP happened between 28-33weeks (according to Great Ormond Street) and this was when I recieved 4-6 doses of prenatal steriods (it was 11 years ago, I can't remember exactly how many). I am trying to find a UK study that shows this. Can anyone help me please?

I've got access to MIDDIRs. I'll have a look for you tonight.

I can find articles (just by a search on yahoo), but the are all linked to American research.

Can't find anything suitable on Middirs.

thanks for looking, I can only find USA research too.

would be interested to see this too sparkly

The USA research makes interesting reading Chatee, I truely believe that this is why Ds1 developed CP in the womb...

if you don;t mind me asking, how do you know that the CP developed in the womb between those specific dates?

SparklyGothKat · 26/04/2009 10:19

Ds1's CP developed in the womb, the hospital can tell by the appearance of the damage. GOSH have said that it happened between 28-33 weeks, as that when he apparently stopped growing, even though he was born at 35 weeks weighing 5lb 2oz

Interesting as I think dh's ex had steroids as she went into prem labour.
SS was born by CS then eventually dignsed with CP at 8 months.
She has always said it was due to false prem labour.

SparklyGothKat · 26/04/2009 10:28

when I had DS2 in 2007, I was given 1 dose at 28 weeks (as I am high risk for premature labour) and when I asked if I would be given anymore, they said that they had discovered that only one is needed.

ok, thanks,i did not know it could occur in utero.

SparklyGothKat · 26/04/2009 20:05

It can develop in Utero, as we have discovered with DS1, his damage looks like round balls in his brain, Dd1's damage happened after delivery and looks like paint splats in her brain. I have seen both of their MRIs as we were referred to a genetist and she had both scans there
