Is £5 vouchers reasonable compensation for finding a piece of gravel in a loaf?

I nearly broke my tooth! Dread to think if dd or ds had eaten it.

Was a piece of gravel, they called it a 'small mineral'

must admit I expected more then £5 vouchers..
was that unreasonable?

so what do I do now?
they have the 'mineral' they needed it for testing
I have pics of it and their letter acknowledging the stone.

dunno, I mean you didn't suffer any loss or injury, did you? You had a stone in your bread, you bit down on it, it didn't damage anything, they apologised and gave you a fiver - more than enough to buy another loaf of bread.

tbh, I'd just move on.

Sycamoretree · 25/04/2009 15:22

Hmmm, seems a bit lightweight. Get stuck in with more letters and emails.

When I was a kid, I nearly choked on a piece of black bin liner in a weetabix. We were chuffed to bits with the free packed and spirally paper hat they sent as compensation! It was the late 70's....my how things have changed

HecatesTwopenceworth · 25/04/2009 15:23

Oh, meant to say, re your child might have eaten it - you don't get compensation for what could have happened. Nothing did happen, so I can't really see how you need compensating as such.

I'm glad you didn't hurt your tooth or your kids didn't eat the stone btw.

Tinker · 25/04/2009 15:24

Well, what's the damage? Not much - the price of sending a complaint letter or email. £5 sounds a good deal to me.

foxinsocks · 25/04/2009 15:25

lolol at taking pictures of it

VoodooTheUnlikely · 25/04/2009 15:27

ok I think I will quit while I'm ahead!

tis true no physical damage was done but I am hyper-protective of my teeth now, and have gone off bread somewhat..

but hopefully will help the diet
maybe I should pay them some cash to say thanks!

well i got £30 of vouchers, £5 for my time and fuel and a free packet of cakey things of my choice (didnt want any more of their hot cross buns) when i got a 4 stones in my hot cross bun (tesco)

mrsmaidamess · 25/04/2009 20:08

If you bought 1,256,896 more loaves you could redo your drive.

Goober · 25/04/2009 20:09

£5 is shit!

Couple of months ago found huge shard of bone in bacon rasher, complained. Got NOTHING but a sickly letter!

blushingm · 26/04/2009 13:08

i found a false nail in my maltesers icecream. They offered me £5 mars voucher as tesco has apparently 'lost' the evidence!!! (i'd returned it to tesco who said they'd deal with it for me )

TheBolter · 26/04/2009 13:11

I think you need to let it go.

I once found a prawn in some Asda coleslaw, phoned up to advise them, because I was slightly concerned about people with full on prawn allergies eating one by mistake.

I got refunded for the coleslaw (a measly £2 or something! )

I don't like Asda much anyway, and I'll never buy their coleslaw again!

VoodooTheUnlikely · 27/04/2009 18:01

eeeeek a false nail in lovely ice cream!!! YUCK!
bone in bacon is a bit more understandable... shocking but still was part of the pig ( hmmm, or possibly the corpse of a hated bacon-factory worker?)

I found a live worm in an orange. I got to pick any fruit of my choice plus £20 in vouchers.

(Waitrose)

A friend of mine found an eyelid, complete with lashes, in a tin of corned beef. She was told that was 'normal' for corned beef

VoodooTheUnlikely · 27/04/2009 18:43

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah eyelid!!!

curlygal · 27/04/2009 18:54

Does she still eat corned beef? Am loving "normal" ha ha

I found what I thought was gravel in my warburtons raisin loaf. I almost choked on it, so I sent it to them with a letter of complaint.

They wrote back to say it was "unblended mixture" was very hard for unblended mixture more like unblended rock, but anyway and they gave me £5 - it was a cheque with my name mispelt so I couldn;t even cash it.

So £5 must be the bakery standard for foreign object in loaf complaints

cheshirekitty · 27/04/2009 20:58

I found a large blowfly on the outside of a morrisons french loaf. It had been cooked to perfection.

We received £10 compensation. Morrison store did not want to send the complaint to head office, but I insisted.

VoodooTheUnlikely · 28/04/2009 18:40

curly girl - mine was warburtons too ! the raisin orange loaf. white gravel. they acknowledged it was a 'small mineral' which came in with the fruit.
