Is there a problem with BACS?

Or am I being fed a line?
I have not been paid today and I am
the boss blames BACS, but this has happened before and it is just not on.
Apparently, it will be in on Monday.
The manager has asked us all if we need cash. I have said I will be ok, but it had better be in on Monday.
Should I have taken the money, just because I could have?

BACS transfers depend on the time the transfer was made, if I'm right in thinking. SOmetimes when I do them, if its after a certain time in the day then I've missed the deadline and it will take an extra bank working day for the transaction to happen. If you'd taken the cash you'd have had to pay it back - it was a nice gesture. If you have online banking at home you could check your account balance after midnight on Sunday night/ Monday morning as it may have gone in by then.

might not be after midnight depending on who you bank with mind - Halifax update their systems at 3am (usually finished by about 3.15/3.20)

and yes BACS can be a PITA - DH used to have his expenses paid by BACS, he's get the letter saying it was being paid (out) on X day and then usually it would arrive the following day - but often it was 2 days later (occasionally 3!)

yes it does depend on what time the transfer was made. sometimes I check my account in the morning and I think i havent been paid, then it arrives in my account 1/2/3pm

thanks, I bank with natwest, the same as the bank the wages come out from, so in theory, it should be straight forward
normally it goes in after midnight, so I will have to check online monday morning

the annoying thing is that this is the third time it has happened in 18 months

I'm sure a BACS payment needs to be made before 5pm to ensure the 3 working day payment lag. Also, yes online accounts do take their time to update, I had a Barclays account which was shocking at how slow transactions appeared online, whereas Halifax seem to be almost immediate.

I do think your boss is messing you around, sadly in these times it will become more common with cashflow the way it is, a delay of a day or two for you might mean a massive difference in the cashflow for them, ie customers are taking longer to pay and are going bust. The giveaway is the fact that he's asking you if you need the cash, ALWAYS say yes, otherwise you'll be back of the queue. I hope it gets resolved for you.

checked this morning online and the payment is down for tomorrow
i hope it was just a case of missing the deadline

We use BACS at work, it takes two days to transfer into the account its going to.

If I transfer on Monday (at any point on Monday before close of business) it will be in the recipients account first thing on Wednesday morning.

Sounds like someone misjudged when they should send it.

purepurple · 26/04/2009 19:08

payday was friday, so it should have been transfered on wednesday then?
