found pills on the floor of my hotel room:staying with my 1 and 3yr old

also in travel..

Went to stay at an awful hotel near Drayton Manor - actually advertised on the drayton manor website... and found tiny capsules on the floor near the bed of our hotel room.
We were with our 1yr old and 3 yr old.

Was furious, went down to complain about the room not being cleaned properly before our arrival and the consequent risk our children were exposed to, but was told by the manager that if I was so worried that I should take them both to casualty. He also said he was sorry. Our bread was served on a plate full of hairs and dust.. among other awful things but Im really furious about what could have happened. Ive brought the pills home with me.

I was billed the full £120 the following morning for 1 night stay.

What would you do/have done, and who can I report this to?
might post this in legal too

thanks

I would have registered the complaints there and then with the hotel - in writing . However seeing as you were there for a short stay I would do this now - If it is part of a chain ( Luxury hotels , Best Western or whatever) then write to the head office. 8 If you can remember name the person that you spoke to )
If it has a rosette or similar rating write to the people who awrad these AA / RAC . I would also cc in the local tourist board.

You could take the pills to a pharmacy to ginf out what they might be. Rosa's advice is good.

Apologies - managed to post this in the wrong thread!

My advice here would be that a lot can be achieved with the art of letter writing - truly!

many thanks - very useful. have contacted the board who awarded them a rosette and am about to write a letter but not sure if i should ask for a refund given that i am about to report them...

ask for a full refund. i have found that if you complain about something, you must bed specific in what redress you expect.

good luck.

Numberfour · 15/04/2009 06:35

BE specific, of course......

ickletickle · 15/04/2009 08:54

wouldnt have paid. sorry a bit late now to get your money back, but write to DM and tourist board. its amazing what hotels etc in this country get away with.

TangoFango · 15/04/2009 09:39

You can't prove the pills were there before your arrival. There is no evidence of who they belonged to before being found on the floor. I think this is the response you will get if you ask for compensation, as people do this to get away with not paying the bill. I am not suggesting that is the case for the op, but it is common in the hotel business for things like this to happen (a broken piece of glass etc). Best advice is to do as Rosa says.

(I also posted in your travel thread)

thanks again all. yes, I think complaining about them rather than getting my money back was more the aim as I thought about what tango says. I could have placed them there, and judging by the awful looks I got from all of the staff at breakfast, they all must think that this must have happened...
Just want to be sure i am complaining to the right authority who will go along and inspect this awful place.
