MONEY - I need a way to make some hard cash QUICK!!!

Ideas please...

I got paid on Friday and am still nearly £500 o/d I seriously will be struggling not to go over my limit this month.

I need any ideas of how I can make some quick cash to pull me through the month. I have credit card but am paying off rather than putting on.

I've just looked at loans but am reluctant. If I can find away to make some cash and cut back on spending this month I should be ok-ish.

Any ideas gratefully received... please

Do you have a skill to offer - teaching a foreign language or music, ironing, doing errands for a pensioner/disabled person, pet sitting, sewing, etc.?

We don't have mobiles, and bought a freeview box instead of cable/satellite, etc. to save some money.

Also how about switching power carriers? That could save a tenner/month as well.

Make sure all your bills are on direct debit, which is also cheaper.

Broadband is paid for by work
Have a good deal on my phone bu am shopping round for better
Have freeview not sky
Credit Card is 0%
Rarely use house phone
Have no lights on a night
Using washing machine in v early hours of morning (timer so finished when I get up)
Have lots in Freezer so will live off that this month
Could get a second job but it all comes down to being a single parent - can't afford to work out of the house as can't afford to pay babysitter
Will not buy ciggies when I go out (only smoke when out of the town)
Can't get people to pay me for ironing as am so v. bad at it
Am qualified nail technician but very out of practice and have nobody to practice on - also would need outlay to buy all the equipment

Go to amazon and find on there the book you would like to sell. On the right hand side there is an option to sell yours here!!

Follow the links and you should be be fine.

You don't need to have pictures or anything so it is quite easy to do. I have sold books, DVD's CD's and Video's.

I am a bit of a cheat because I put all my CD's up for sale and when one gets sold I copy & burn it on my laptop first so I don't actually miss out.

TVI that other thread was amazing there were just SOOO many great ideas. I certainly shop more cheaply, buying value foods and also shopping at ASDA. Loads of people here save money simply by planning their meals and therefore shopping to take advantage of this. Have you looked deep in your freezer (assuming you have one) I am convinced I have about a months worth of meals somewhere there. I have AT LEAST 3 joints of some sort that I must get round to cooking

Be honest with DP, explain the situation and ask if instead of him taking you out could he spend the same on a supermarket shop for you both for a week.

Car Boot sales are well worth it I made about £80 and tided my garage at the same time. I am planning another one soon and hoping to make another £80 - £100. Good stuff like M&P cots are worth seliing here on MN as you don't make much for each item at car boot sales.

Defineatly AMAZON for books/videos as you don't neeed to have a photo

TheVillageIdiot · 25/04/2005 14:10

yes that other thread that WWW posted was great, am gonna pick up some of those ideas. i think I said already that I have enough in my freezer to live off this month. So will only buy essentials when needed.

dp doesn't actually live with me but I do cook for him every night, rather than ask him for money I think I will just tell him to eat at home a bit more this month. that way I can just have things like beans on toast etc between stuff out of the freezer. I only cook cos I think it's nice to eat together - i never bother cooking just for myself.

Will think tonight what 'big' baby stuff (like cot) I have to get rid of and then put an ad on here. My cot was over £00 new but don't know what I'll get for it now. It's in perfect condition too.

nope, you dont need a pic for amazon listings

Branster · 25/04/2005 22:22

TVI, I found perfume & cosmetics sell really well on ebay so if you have stuff like that lying around which you have no intention of ever using, try ebay. either make up a set of similar products (i.e. hand care) or same make (i.e. clsrins set). nice shoes sell well. But don't expect to make a fortune, they will sell but not for huge amounts.

as for savings: don't buy any snacks, drinks, coffee when out of the house, no magazines or newspapers. saves a fortune

TheVillageIdiot · 26/04/2005 08:46

I have loads of perfume and stuff - I think I even have a box still in it's clear wrap.

Don't buy newspapers or magazines, have bought lunch with me today from home. I need to get dd some milk on the way home but I think that should be the only money I spend today.

I am not going to text anyone today either. Every little helps.

What about mystery shopping? It may not help this month (you have to wait a month to get paid), but certainly wouold be good for future. I get paid to do the weekly shop at least twice a week and they offer all sorts of shops (and restaurants) depending on your area. It varies between £10-50 depending and you can do a lot of it in your own time.
Have a look on www.borntoloaf.co.uk

dropinthe · 26/04/2005 10:38

Q-how do you decide on how much to sell something for on Amazon? Look at what they sell it for?-am thinking I have some old cds that could be worth something-one of my double cds has been selling for over £60.00 on ebay!

Lizzylou · 26/04/2005 10:45

That should read twice a month, not a week........

dyzzidi · 26/04/2005 10:50

Re Amaxon when you are placing your listing it tell you the amaxon price and the lowest 'marketplace price' based on the condition of the item you then decide to go cheaper or the same or even higher than that price.

I tend to go cheaper if I want a quick sale as if I was purchasing something I would always buy the cheapest available and think others do the same.

Mum2girls · 26/04/2005 11:03

Not as high tech as some of the suggestions, but maybe as lucrative...car boot sale???
