Car Insurance on a 2nd car

Looking for car insurance on 2nd car but it is coming up more expensive than anticipated. Comparison sites imply you can't use NCD on more than one policy at a time, can anyone confirm whether any companies differ. dh (named 2nd driver) has a 2yr old speeding endorsement , how long before it elapses ? Would we be better off approaching the insurer of our other car direct?

Ring them up, say you are going to shop around - they will want to keep your business so may offer you a far better deal.

Is it for both of you to be insured on both cars?

yes it is . We already have one car which dh drives mostly and a company lease one which is due to be returned , hence the need for replacement.

if you go to the same ins co that you have your first car with they'll often offer you an introductory no claims because you can onlym use your proof of no claims against the one car

Thanks I think we'll do that - hopefully they are open tomorrow

We have a multicar policy with admiral IIRC. it was miles cheaper than insuring each car separately, saved us about £150-200.

WE have seperate policies for 2 cars with the same insurer (Admiral), and with the NCD on both. For us it worked out cheaper than having a multicar policy.

I've got a speeding thingy - 3 points. 6 years before it lapses (I think), but it made no difference to our insurance. 6 or more points does though, they said.
