Hi all

Looking for a bit of help please

We are off to Kos in June for 2 weeks self catering holiday. There's 5 of us going myself DH and 3 sons- 1@ 7yrs and 5yr old twins.

  1. How much money do you think we will need?
  2. Do we take it all in euoros or some travellers cheques some euros?
  3. Can I take pasta, cereal packs in my case lol

Not surw how much you will need but for three of us, we usually spend between £1,000 and £1,300 on a two week holiday abroad self catering so i would probably say about £2,000. I would take a mixture of pounds, euros and the main bulk in travellers cheques. you are covered with your travellers cheque if they get stolen or lost which is worth the little fees you have to pay to change them into euros. I think you will get away with taking pasta and cereal etc in your suitcase but you have to think its all added weight to your allowance. We tend to just find a local supermarket when we are abroad and buy quite a bit the first day, eg water, pasta, butter, cheese, coke, crisps, alcohol, yoghurts. then every few days buy fresh, fruit. Sometimes if we are eating in we tend to find a local takeaway pizza place, and buy a pizza to eat at our apartment with salad and chips. its cheaper than eating a pizza in a restaurant.

It depends on whether you plan to eat out much. From memory the supermarkets take cards, but restaurants tended to be cash. Eating out is not cheap since Greece joined the EU.

I know that people have taken stuff through in their cases, but cereal and pasta is readily obtainable. "Normal" bacon and sausages are harder to come by, and there is a premium on baked beans too.

That's great thanks ladies

Had thought of taking between £2000 and £3000 with us.

Maybe we should take 1st weeks money in euros and 2nd week in travellers cheques that way we know the budget etc

We will eat out a wee bit i imagine too but the idea of taking pizza to the appartments is a fab idea. As we are staying for the 2 weeks I can't see us being out every single night as the kids will be knackered let alone us lol
