Sorting out a probate thing two hours drive away - can I get a local solicitor to check my id - and how much will they charge?

Do you have a grant of probate or are you looking for a solicitor to deal with the probate?

When we needed notarised copies of our passports etc for our house purchase (had to use company legal firm hours away), a local solicitor charged us a tenner to do it, which she put in the charity box.

oh no solicitor sorted. The id check is so that the house my step-gran left four of us, can be put in our names so we can sell it. So guess they need to check that I exist (other than a name on a will!).

a local solicitor would probably do 'certified cpies' of passport, etc to send to your solicitor. I'd think they'd probably charge around £10 but worth calling one to check. Also check if that's sufficient for your own solicitor.

Otherwise, could you send original id to your solicitor by registered post? and ask them to return it in same way.

no - I tried the registered post - the executor had been told that was ok, but apparently not needs to be in person.

£10 seems alarmingly reasonable!

Thanks all
