If we are getting approx £100 / month child benefit & tax credits with one DC, what will we get with two DC?

I'm trying to do my sums and planning.... We currently get £80 a month in child benefit and about £20 a month tax credits for DS (17 months). DC2 is expected this summer, will we get double the money ie £200 or is it worked out differently? Thanks

I'm not sure but it's definitely not double. it's always less for subsequent children.

The "directgov" site has good simple info on stuff like this

try here

I get about £130 a month for two children, I think there is an ancient single parent enhancement there - have never claimed tax credits so that's child benefit alone

MitchyInge · 30/03/2009 14:11

£132.80 but don't know how it's worked out

Oh poo. Just saw that we will only get £53 child benefit for DC2!!! Will probably get an extra £1 tax credits.

Thanks for the link though.

Whatever tax credit you are entitled to for DC2 it is double for the first year.
A pleasant surprise to us.

for a new baby you'll get an extra £550 ish in the first year then back to your original amount as it sound slike you're getting the minumum (like us). then you'll get the 2nd child child benefit each month. think it's something like £15 a week? less than for the 1st child anyway.

HappyMummyOfOne · 30/03/2009 15:49

If your on minimum tax credits, you only get the extra £10 a week for the first year and then it goes back down to the same rate as just one child.

However as you get more than £42 a month you must be on more than basic tax credits so may get a slight increase.
