Do you still get grants for school uniforms, and if so, where do I apply?

Have got a form for dd2's school uniform and it is going to cost £65.50

And that's just for the bits that I haven't been able to buy second hand.

Am going to speak to the school to see whether she absolutely 100% NEEDS the polo shirts to have the school crest on them and if not I'll be able to get them cheaper than the £8.00 quoted.

But if I don't have an option but to get them through school, is there still a grant you can get?

Our council run one, so I think its something thats done locally. Here it's around £30 per child which you get when they go into certain years (R, 3, 5, 7 and 9 iirc). You need to be on certain benefits to get it and you have to apply, its not automatically given.

depends on your council check on their website - should tell you on there. Our local one stopped giving the grants several years ago.

Thanks you lot.

It turns out that we get £40 when they go to high school but nothing for primary.

Looks like she will be going in cheapo versions of the uniform then...
