What is your average daily electricity usage?

Just looked at ours for the first time on the scottish power website and it is horrific for this quarter.

What do other people use on a daily basis?

umm, I have a spreadsheet showing this over the last 9 years . It's on the other computer but from memory (double ) I think it is about 17kw per day.

trixymalixy · 17/03/2009 23:16

That's very organised of you!!!

Our average was 17kw in the summer.

Don't really want to say what it was this querter as it is embarassingly high .

not really, I started it when they were really messing about with not reading and estimated bills etc.
Ok, so if 17 sounds ball park then I think it is around 14 in the summer and 25 for a few months in the winter - which is very odd given that the heating is all oil fired.

Ceolas · 17/03/2009 23:22

How do I work this out? Do I have to register with them and give them my phone number? [suspicious]

ChasingSquirrels · 17/03/2009 23:24

my spreadsheet just has the dates (start and finish) and the readings (start and finish) then an (x2-x1)/(y2-y1) formula to give me a daily rate.

trixymalixy · 17/03/2009 23:29

I have signed up for online meter readings and billing from scottish power. They have charts of your electricity usage which is quite good.

It should be easy to work out for yourself. just divide the total kwh on your bill by the number of days to give you a daily figure.

Your usage looks pretty similar to ours Chasing Squirrels over the past 2 years. It has really shot up this quarter, the only difference being that we have an electric heater in our kitchen.

Although they made such a mess of setting up this online billing that it could b because the other meter readings were estimated so this one is catching up.

We apparently had a quarter which had opening and closing ACTUAL readings, and in which we used about 50kw - in total! Yeah, and I believed that one.

We use about 8kWh per day in the summer, rising to around 12kWh per day in the winter. No tumble drying, low energy bulbs everywhere, but several computers used a lot. I think the difference must be using the oven and lights more in the winter as the heating is gas. I imagine if people tumble dry, then you would tend to use that more in the winter too.

I think your heater in the kitchen must be the culprit - how many hours a day are you running it?

janinlondon · 18/03/2009 09:39

Between 11 and 26 depending on how many people we have staying and whether we have been on holidays in the billing period. (All our showers are electric.)

Ceolas · 18/03/2009 10:40

22 per day from 10 Sept til 9th Dec. Awaiting bill for next quarter.

trixymalixy · 18/03/2009 13:43

I am certain the heater in the kitchen is the culprit, although I think there is an element of catch up from mainly estimated readings.

We have it set so it comes on for dinner time as our kitchen is freezing. The problem is that DS keeps fiddling with the buttons and the timer, so it is possibly on for longer than it should be.

I think we'll just switch it off compeltely.

Oh I could scream. Was told last month bill would be generated on 9th March and to phone with readings on 4th. Duly did so.

No sign of bill yet so I phoned this afternoon. Bill was generated on 13th using estimated readings! Eh? Apparently my readings on 4th were too early so entered for information only. Grrrrr! Both accounts have balnace outstanding however

Think we will have to up our payments or reduce our usage.

notcitrus · 18/03/2009 19:17

I've used 4100 'units' for each of the last 2 years - if that's kWh it's 11 per day.

Although that's pre-baby - lots more washing machine, dishwasher and cooker use now... Waiting for first bill from Eon - allegedly they will save me £800 in a year. And I've got a beard like Jimmy Hill...

Schlumpf · 01/04/2009 20:42

Hi there, we live in a terraced house and our usage is about 3000kWh per year, which I think is quite high for someone not heating with electricity.

We use 'Utility Warehouse' and they have just won the Which? magazine's review of energy providers. Check them out, they really seem good: Utility Warehouse
