Well at present we have quantitative easing, so the actual rate is less than 0%. Therefore this will have to stop before the rates go up.

It is impossible to know exactly how long it will be, because the situation that the economy is in currently is unprecedented. However, many people are misunderstanding the situation and predicting the same will happen as in the previous recession - in this case we were trying to prop up the pound in the ERM, and had higher inflation, so rates were higher.

One of the consequences of having very low interest rates is that the value of the pound has dropped. There are advantages and disadvantages to this, but it may prove to be inflationary (because it is expensive to import, therefore higher prices for raw materials). If this happens then they may go up a bit, but it is unlikely to be enormous in the next couple of years.

Longer than that it is imo impossible to even predict what will happen. I think the current lifetime trackers are possibly to be avoided!

I reckon it will be around 8% in about 3 years

and there are 465 jellybeans in the jar

brettgirl2 · 17/03/2009 13:37

I think they will be 5% in 3 years

There are 468 jellybeans in the jar

nappyzonehasastroppytoddler · 17/03/2009 19:10

no i think your all wrong - there are actually definitly 720 jelly beans in the jar - the rate will be 12% and we are all doomed
