Should (could) I claim in house insurance for NDS's?

DD4 dropped 2 Nintendo DS's down the loo, one has stopped working, the other works after drying out but doesn't accept game cartridges. Both are less than a year old.
Should I claim on the house insurance for them or is it not worth discounts/premium increases?
NDS's are what? £80 new, and my premiums are really low (£10/month contents and buildings).
Please help me work out what's best? TIA

What is the excess? You need to figure out how much your excess is plus the cost of losing no claims bonus.

Hadn't thought about excess - it's £100 so would only get £60 towards 2 new NDS's.
Only have 1 year no claims, not sure of the discount for that or how much premiums would go up by, but doesn't seem worth it.
Thank you.

Did he drop them down the loo at the same time or separately? If he did them separately you would have to pay the excess twice.

My insurance doesn't cover 'hand held' or portable devices! Check small print!

My phone insurance used to cover 'hand held electricals'. I can't remember who it was with. It was £8 per month but I never used it.

Perhaps worth looking into if you have clumsy children with expensive gaming equipment? The excess was only £20 too. How she manage to drop two down there?

pavlovthecat · 16/03/2009 17:15

For example, my no claims bonus is currently a discount of £24, been with this co for 2 years. Think though our NCB only kicked after 2 years with no claims. We had £100 excess so we factored in that amount when we needed to claim for damage to our bathroom. As it happens, it is costing a lot so we will pay it anyway. But we took £124 off the total cost.

Lots of policies exclude hand held devices and a lot exclude malicious damage - dropping two nintendo ds's downthe toilet wouldnt been seen as an accident (assuming you have ad cover).

I wouldnt claim even if covered, its not wirth it and it only takes another claim to seriously bump up your premiums and make you an unattractive risk to new insurers.

She dropped them at the same time. She was taking them downstairs for DD1 and DD2 (she's 2) and got sidetracked by DD3 on the loo. I didn't know she had them and didn't see it happen but it wasn't pretty!
I didn't realise the insurance might not cover hand held devices, guess mine won't as too cheap. Might be worth looking into that mobile cover though, as like you say with 2 toddlers nicking their sisters' stuff a lot of accidents to happen.
It's def not worth claiming, cheers everyone.
