Change to state pension age. Anyone born after 1955 will have to wait to 65 and 20 year olds will be 68!

I knew there were going to be changes to state pension but I went onto the pension website for something else and came across this calculator

Am I the only person who didn't realise this was on the cards? I will be 66 before I get a state pension and younger people will be 68

I'm from the generation who (mainly) left school at 16 so it seems doubly unfair.

What is the difference between full pension and non full pension?

Lucy246 · 01/03/2009 18:42

Do you still accure NI contributions when you are Maternity leave and on SMP?

LunarSea · 01/03/2009 19:19

66 for me. Though I fully expect it to increase again before then. In 21 years of working I've only knocked off 15 years from the time to retirement figure. So on that basis it'll probably be 70 before I get there.

Poor DH - I have checked & he will get a reduced pension - it seems a bit off that he will have to return to work/claim benefits now (he is 56 & medically retired - he hasn't claimed benefits al the time he has been retired as he has received 'other' money)

Katymac - here

Lucy - it says if you have paid less than 30 years NI (or HRP credits) then you get 1/30 of the pension for each year you did pay

Dunno about mat leave. Don't you pay tax and NI on SMP?

Panic over - I think we were working on 39 years (would that be right?) he has 29 plus his HRP so we will be almost OK

DD was born in 97 so he gets
98-99
99-00
00-01
01-02
02-03
03-04
04-05
05-06
06-07
07-08
08-09
That is 11 years so we are fine

Oh yes fruitful I did pay tax and NI.

I have 8 years NI contributions so far - got a way to go But I only left school 8 years ago. The part time job I had whilst I was at college should count I think and I'm back working PT since my mat. leave finished so I'm pleased thats included.

Glad everything is ok for you KatyMac.
