Should I be worried about some sort of fraud?

We got a letter this morning, addressed to someone else at our address. The name was really unusual (almost sounds made up) and we happen to know the names of all the people who have lived at this address since the house was built, so I opened it. (not sure if I should about that or not).

It was a letter from a bank, thanking the addressee for letting them know his change of address, and saying that this letter was a security measure, sent to his old address (i.e. ours) to make sure he had made the changes himself.

I called the bank's helpline and they want me to send the letter in and are investigating. Is there a kind of fraud that could involve using our address but not our name?

Hmm, looks like someone needed to open a bank account and used your address to do so. You do need an address to open an account. Perhaps they didn't count on the bank sending the confirmation letter, if the person is foreign esp, they wouldn't have known that.

I would leave it in the hands of the bank. It wouldn't necessarily concern me because they are not using your name or anything, and they are clearly not professionals, they probably just got your address from the phone book or something.

Thanks for the reassurance, Rhubarb. 'Twas a very unusual name - for the UK anyway. I'll wait for the bank to do their thing.

Anyone else had this happen to them?
