What happens if you have to move house but you have no money for either a deposit or a removal van?

This isn't happening yet but I am fairly sure we are going to be evicted, and we have no money spare and massive debts. Will we end up in a hostel or something? And if we do, what happens to all our furniture and stuff?
My parents would take us in but they don't live in the same borough so going to their house would mean taking DS out of nursery, having to apply for schools all over again and losing my Avon route. Also as they are in their 70s and DS is now a lively rampaging 4 year old it would be extremely tense...

You could ask your local church to help out

some councils may be able to provide you with a grant or loan to pay for moving costs. Check with them as well. Also are you getting advice from shelter as they may be able to point you towards some organisations.

Hope it all sorts itself out for you.

Um.

We are in this situation too and I'm not entirely certain yet.

Do your local council operate a deposit guarantee scheme?

Have to say, asking the local church might not be such a bad idea. Keeps them you off the streets and all that

You can get a crisis loan or budgeting loan from the social fund.

Contact Shelter...they are really very helpful, might not be able to provide any actual help but are great for letting you know what help you might be entitled to.

It all depends on why you are becoming homeless and what the local housing situation is as to what help you'd get with rehousing. Go and speak to housing advice at your local council, they'll probably have a team called housing options who'll be able to help.

Moving costs may be met by a social fund loan or crisis loan, you'd need to speak to the Benefits Agency (you don't need to be on benefits to get them.)

Good luck.

If you are homeless with a family then surely you can apply for a council house? I think that yes, you will end up in a hostel for a bit. However, be careful about going to stay with parents - it means that you are not homeless and will be a much lower priority. Although it will be unpleasant in the short term you need to go through the system.
