We're moving back to Britain (hopefully soon) and I have no idea what benefits/credits we are entitled to. I am aware of child benefit, but what are the others, and where do you go to find out what you're entitled to? dh and I will both be working and ds will be starting school in reception. Where do I start?

Sorry for being so dim and out of touch! TIA

Really depends what benefits you mean. If you are both working and ds in school probably very little other than cb, maybe tax credit depending on your salary level(it is paid according to a scale of income). Others such as Council Tax, Housing and Income Support are means tested and unlikely to apply to you. entitledto.co.uk may give you a rough idea of anything relevant. However first of all you'd need to notify the tax office on your return and provide financial details for them to do a more accurate assessment.

How long have you been out of the country? I found when I moved to England, I couldn't access some things as I hadn't lived there for the past 3 years.

How long have you been out of the country, and are you both British? Have you been within EU? Some benefits depend on a National Insurance record being up to date. But agree with LIZS, child benefit is the only universal one.

There is a website called entitledto which might help you.

I'm thinking more of tax credit, child benefit type of things, rather than housing benefit or income support which we wouldn't be entitled to, so I suppose I'm asking about child-related benefits and working person's benefits. I'm not even sure if that makes any sense!

But I'll have a look at the website.
Thank you!
