www.shelter.org.uk/
Call Shelter - they should be able to advise you

if you stick to the agreement it shouldn't go to court. That's the idea of having an agreement.
How did the arrears get so high? Not being nosy, I just wondered if there was a problem there that could be sorted out.
have you got problems with housing benefit?

liverpoolbird · 13/02/2009 09:51

the lady in the housing said that if i stick to my agreement it could still go to court but she said she couldnt see the judge asking us to leave the house as long as i showed that i as trying to pay the money back, im just hoping that she is right as im scared that if i have no where to live they will take my kids off me and i couldnt live without them.

the advice to ring Shelter is good advice, or see if you can find a CAB or law centre or advice centre local to you.

They are not supposed to take people to court if they are sticking to an agreement. The CAB/advice centre could write a strong letter for you to get the landlord to back off and just accept the payments under the agreement.

even if they do take it to court, it is very, very likely that the judge would make an order which meant you could stay there as long as you kept paying. These are usually called a 'postponed' order, (in England & Wales anyway, I don't know about Scotland).

Which part of the country are you in? I could do some useful googling if you can say what area you're in.

but above all don't worry.

No, if you are have difficulty with paying arrears, your children will not be taken into care!

Please don't worry. Really.

did you already check the NIHE website?

this says they will support people who make an agreement about paying arrears. Even if your local office starts being awkward, you can always quote this back at them.

and here is some info about Citizens Advice Bureau in NI

it really is worth getting advice about housing benefit if this is part of the problem.
